CITE online

Objective

In order to facilitate participation and scientific debate, the Organization has decided to open an online discussion platform, where we can exchange ideas from anywhere connected to the Web, at any time of day or night, for 20 days (10 to 30 October). We hope that with this, and using the potential of digital technology, we can achieve a richer and more varied scientific debate with the participation of researchers who, for whatever reason, are unable to attend to the conference in person..

Participants

All the conference participants will have access to the platform to participate in online discussions. Some will participate through the platform exclusively, and others will participate through the platform as well as in the traditional manner.

How to participate in the CITE2011 online option

  • The scientific assessment and deadlines are the same as for the traditional version, so both of them have the same scientific rigor and the same Scientific Committee (see “Guidelines for authors“).
  • When the article has been accepted and the participant has been registered (see “Registration“), he or she must send a presentation in .odp or .ppt format (see “Guidelines for authors“).
  • The presentation will be posted by the Administrator on the conference’s Slideshare account. We recommend viewing the examples on that website to become acquainted with limitations of the submissions regarding the Flash animations. This presentation will be available on the platform, so there is no need to download anything in order to view the slideshow.
  • Presentations including great ideas deserve to have someone presenting them, so participants also have the possibility to record a video and present the ideas expressed in their slides in person. The aim is, for the online debate, to be as close as possible to the traditional version, but without its limitations.
  • To include a video, you just need to record it (you can use a web camera with good lighting, you do not need professional tools) and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo. After that, the participant should send to the Administrator the code to add the video to the presentation on the platform. In the next few months, this page will include details on how to upload videos to the Internet and how to send us that code.
  • The videos will always be in accounts managed by the participants and we will only use the codes that the participants have sent to us in order to present their video on the conference platform (accessible only to participants). After the conference, the platform will be closed and, with it, access to the videos.
  • When the online participation period starts (10 to 30 October), each participant will receive a user name and password to access the platform.
  • Access to the platform will be through the image link at the bottom of this page.

Recommendations for online participation

  • Each participant will have a profile that can be filled with a photo (highly recommended, nobody wants to talk to a name without a face), data presentation, where he or she works, their research and contact information so that other participants can maintain contact with you when you finish the conference, ahead of academic collaborations, projects etc.
  • There is no time limit on your video exposure. However, it would be advisable to spend about 20-30 minutes maximum.
  • If you are interested in a presentation and you don’t have enough time to see it completely, you can always return to it later. You have 20 days, at any time of day, to log on to the platform and view the presentations of other participants.
  • In each presentation there will be a forum available for comments, compliments and discussion. We do request however that the interactions will be, above all, polite, reasoned and productive, as it is expected of any scientific debate.
  • There will be many presentations, researchers and a lot of debate. We recommend that you to take the opportunity to establish academic contacts, learn and share.
